- Cut corners – hacer algo de forma rápida y sencilla, que puede tener un efecto negativo sobre el trabajo.
‘Cutting corners on this project could mean careless mistakes are made.’
- It’s not rocket science – no es difícil de comprender o hacer.
‘Designing a website may involve a lot of work but it’s not rocket science.’
- Get the ball rolling – empezar algo o poner algo en marcha
‘Is everyone here now? Right, it’s time to get the ball rolling.’
- Up to speed – conocer la información más actual (estar al día).
‘Miranda joining our team tomorrow. Can you all make sure she is up to speed on our project?’
- On the back burner – de baja prioridad (poner en un segundo plano)
‘Due to the pandemic we have to put new innovations on the back burner and focus on our key accounts.’
- Back to the drawing board – empezar de nuevo porque una idea no dio frutos (volver a la casilla de salida).
‘The client has rejected our initial design so it’s back to the drawing board.’
- For the long haul – durante un largo periodo de tiempo
‘It will be hard to regenerate business after the pandemic but we are here for the long haul.’
- Burn the midnight oil – trabajar mucho y continuamente fuera de horario normal, posiblemente por la noche.
‘Our project team is burning the midnight oil to meet the deadline.’
- Think outside the box – ser más creativo e intentar pensar en algo original
‘Advertising agencies must think outside the box to come up with fresh new ideas that will grab consumers’ attention’
- On the same page – entender lo mismo que los demás (estar en la misma onda).
‘Let us discuss this internally first so that we are on the same page before we speak to the customer’
- Out on a limb – decir o hacer algo arriesgado
‘Bill went out on a limb trying to support the views of his colleague and in the process earned the ire of his boss’
- Throw in the towel – aceptar el fracaso, rendirse (tirar la toalla)
‘My brother was so fed up with his manager that he threw in the towel and quit his job’
- Hit the nail on the head – dar en el clavo
‘That’s just what I was thinking — you have hit the nail on the head’
- Cut to the chase – ir al grano
‘Stop talking about irrelevant statistics and cut to the chase please!’
- Rock the boat – causar problemas, agitar las aguas
‘The team is finally working well together. Hiring someone new may rock the boat.’
