My life with the pandemic
I have been in quarantine at home now for 10 days because my brother tested positive for the virus and so all my family had to isolate at home.
(Llevo 10 días en cuarentena en mi casa porque mi hermano dio positivo en el test para el virus y toda mi familia ha tenido que aislarse en casa).
He has had no symptoms at all except a slight cough but we are being careful and not mixing with other people just in case.
(No ha tenido ningún síntoma, aparte de un poco de tos, pero estamos teniendo cuidado y no nos mezclamos con otra gente por si acaso).
My grandad, who is 80, got the virus and had to be taken into hospital for a week. He had a high temperature and breathing problems. But now, he’s been allowed to come home and is slowly getting better. He will be convalescing for another month and not going out but he is definitely improving.
(Mi abuelo, que tiene 80 años, cogió el virus y le tuvieron que ingresar en hospital durante una semana. Tuvo fiebre y problemas respiratorios. Ahora le han dado el alta y, poco a poco, está mejorando. Estará convaleciente durante un mes, sin salir de casa, pero seguro que mejorará cada día).
My parents are working from home at the moment. They work from their laptops every day and make video calls from their mobiles. My mum says she likes it because it gives her time to do housework at the same time and she doesn’t waste time travelling to work. But, my dad says he prefers to go into the office as he gets bored being at home all day and not seeing any of his workmates. He would like to work from home two days a week and the other days be in the office. Let’s see what happens.
(En este momento, mis padres están tele-trabajando. Trabajan desde sus portátiles cada día y hacen videollamadas desde sus móviles. Mi madre dice que le gusta porque le da tiempo para hacer las tareas de casa a la vez y no pierde tiempo desplazándose al trabajo. Pero mi padre dice que preferiría ir a la oficina porque se aburre todo el día en casa y sin ver a sus compañeros de trabajo. Le gustaría trabajar desde casa dos días por semana e ir a la oficina el resto. A ver qué pasa).
I have started back at school now and I like seeing my friends again. We all have to wear masks but I don’t really mind. I don’t have to wear my mask when I play football and go cycling so it’s not too bad.
(He empezado de nuevo el cole y me gusta ver a mis amigos otra vez. Todos tenemos que llevar mascarilla pero no me importa mucho. No tengo que llevar mascarilla cuando juego a fútbol o practico ciclismo (o monto en bicicleta) así que no está tan mal).
But I think we will all be glad when the virus starts to go away and the vaccines are available for people. I want to go back to my normal life with no fear and more freedom. It isn’t really affecting my friends and even if some young people get it, the majority seem to be asymptomatic. But, for older people and people with underlying health problems, it is more dangerous and they are more vulnerable.
(Pero creo que todos nos vamos a alegrar cuando se vaya el virus y las vacunas estén disponibles para la gente. Quiero volver a mi vida normal sin miedo y con más libertad. Realmente no está afectando a mis amigos y aun si algunos jóvenes lo cogen, la mayoría es asintomática. Pero, para la gente mayor y/o con problemas de salud es más peligroso y son más vulnerables).
Espero que esto os haya ayudado para hablar de la situación de la pandemia y ¡ojalá no tengamos que hablar de ello durante mucho más tiempo!
