Muchas veces, en tus clases de inglés, tu profe te hace preguntas sobre lo que te gusta de distintas cosas. Por ejemplo, qué serie nos gusta ver, qué tipo de música preferimos escuchar o donde nos gusta ir de vacaciones, qué
nos gusta a hacer en nuestro tiempo libre etc.
Y estoy segura que la mayoría de vuestras respuestas empiezan con I like o I don´t like. ¡Lo típico! Pero ¿no hay algo más? ¿No os aburrís de utilizar siempre las mismas expresiones? ¡Pues claro! En inglés tenemos un montón de recursos para expresar de distintas maneras nuestros gustos o lo que odiamos. Vamos a ver algunos ejemplos y así podréis expresaros mejor y ¡parecer más interesantes!
¡Cómo me gusta este blog! (por ejemplo, Ja ja!).
Después de todas esas expresiones pueden ir sustantivos o un verbo acabado en “ing”.
Ej. Fallo típico de un español hablando en inglés:
I like swim XXXXX mal! I like swimming.
Orden de las palabras:
e.j. Fallo típico de un español: I like very much reading XXXXXX No!!
Correct: I like reading very much.
Alternativas a “I like”:
– I’m into
e.j. I’m into cycling (Soy aficionado del ciclismo).
He’s into art (Es aficionado al arte).
– I’m keen on
e.j. I’m keen on learning new languages (Me gusta aprender nuevos idiomas).
Are you keen on trekking? (¿Eres aficionado al trekking?).
– I’m interested in
e.j. I’m interested in cooking (Me interesa la cocina).
They’re interested in wine (Les interesa el vino).
– I’m a fan of
e.j. I’m a fan of travelling (Soy estusiasta de viajar).
We are fans of Atletico Madrid (Somos hinchas de Atlético de Madrid).
– I’m passionate about
e.j. I’ passionate about being a teacher (Ser profesor es mi pasión).
She’s passionate about the cinema (Su pasión es el cine).
– I’m fond of
e.j. I’m fond of going hiking (Me gusta andar en el campo).
Are you fond of the mountains? (¿Te gusta la montaña?).
También podemos usar adverbios para fortalecer la expresión:
I’m quite into cycling (Me gusta bastante el ciclismo).
I’m really keen on art (Estoy muy interesado en el arte).
I’m incredibly passionate about Spanish cinema (Soy muy apasionada del cine español).
I’m a massive fan of Real Madrid (Soy muy hincha del Real Madrid).
I’m very interested in cooking (Me interesa mucho la cocina).
I’m extremely fond of photography (Me gusta mucho la fotografía).
I absolutely love chocolate (Me encanta el chocolate).
¡No nos gusta hablar de Brexit! (We don’t like talking about Brexit!).
Añadiremos not a las frases anteriores para hacerlas negativas (porque van con el verbo to be).
e.j. I’m not into cycling.
I’m not keen on art.
I’m not a fan of TV.
¿Cómo responder?:
Do you like rugby? – Not really, It’s not my cup of tea (no, no es de mi agrado).
Do you want to watch the basketball game later?
It´s not really my thing, sorry (No es lo mío, lo siento).
Have you seen the new Narcos series?
No, it doesn´t appeal to me (No me atrae).
Did you see Sálvame the other day?
No, I can´t stand it (No, no lo soporto).
Do you fancy coming to the cinema tonight? (¿Te apetece venir al cine esta noche?).
No, I don’t really fancy it, thanks. I’m tired. (No me apetece mucho, estoy cansada).
Esas frases aparecen frecuentemente en los exámenes de Cambridge: First and Advanced y son muy apropiadas para utilizarlas durante el oral y en las redacciones. Como siempre digo, no importa si lo que dices en el oral es verdad, lo que interesa es demostrar que tienes un vocabulario amplio y lo utilizas adecuadamente. Como en tu idioma materno no siempre repites lo mismo entonces, ¡no lo hagas en inglés! ¡Hay que ser más aventurero!
¿Y si queremos expresar una preferencia sobre otra cosa:
I would rather + to infinitivo
I’d rather watch Breaking Bad than Narcos (Preferiría ver…).
I would prefer + to infinitive
I´d prefer to eat sushi (Preferiría comer…).
I would prefer + to infinitive…rather than to infinitive
I´d prefer to go to the mountains rather than go the beach
I prefer + to infinitive
I prefer to drink coffee to tea.

En vez de un simple y soso: Yes I like TV series
Inténtalo y verás cómo impresionas a la gente.
