A menudo los alumnos en las clases de inglés en Online with Cambridge House nos preguntan a los profes cual es la mejor manera de aprender los ‘phrasal verbs’ en inglés. ¡Qué pregunta más difícil! Como ya sabrás hay muchos ‘phrasal verbs’ (o verbos seguidos de preposiciones) y son muy comunes en el idioma anglosajón. Además, algunos tienen más de un significado según su contexto. Por supuesto que se pueden estudiar según la preposición, aprendiendo todos los que terminan con ‘OUT’ por ejemplo. O se pueden aprender por el verbo inicial, estudiando todos los que se formen con el verbo ‘TAKE’, como otro ejemplo.
Sin embargo, yo creo que siempre es más fácil aprenderlos en contexto; entonces hoy os propongo un cuento lleno de ‘phrasal verbs’ relacionados con el amor. A continuación de los verbos, veremos la traducción al español para ir aprendiéndolos. Si en algún momento quieres presentarte a un examen de Cambridge (First B2, Advanced C1 o Proficiency C2), conocer bien este aspecto del idioma inglés te va a resultar imprescindible.

When Kanye met Kim
One night Kanye saw Kim in a bar and was immediately attracted to her so he asked her out (la invitó) for dinner. Kim accepted and they discovered that they had a lot in common and got on very well (se llevaron muy bien) together. They had such a good time together that they decided to go out with (salir) each other. Everything went well until one evening when Kanye had arranged to meet Kim at the cinema. She waited and waited but he didn’t turn up (apareció). The next day Kanye phoned Kim and made it up (arregló la situación) to her by asking her round for dinner. Kim was worried as she thought that Kanye might let her down (fallaría) again. When she arrived he wasn’t at home and Kim broke down (se hundió) and cried – she couldn’t put up with (tolerar) this. They arranged to meet the next day and had a massive argument and fell out (discutieron). They both decided that the best thing to do would be to split up (separarse). For a long time Kim was very miserable but after a while she got over (se recuperaron) it and fell for (se enamoró) another man and lived happily ever after.
