  • It takes two to tangoesta expresión se usa para demostrar que hay dos puntos de vista para cualquier conflicto, o que necesitan dos para crear una situación problemática y que ninguno de los dos es completamente inocente.

  • Like a broken record para describir a alguien que repite la misma historia o información una y otra vez.

‘Jimmy is like a broken record. He has told me that story about his car being stolen at least 10 times now!’ 

  • To blow the whistle / a whistle-blowerel hecho de contar discretamente a las autoridades actividades ilegales que pasan en cierto organismo o empresa / La persona que cuenta las irregularidades.

‘He blew the whistle on the company for their fraudulent activities and now the company has been closed down.’ 

  • All that jazzesta frase es una forma de resumir todo relacionado o parecido al tema del cual estás hablando.

‘I can’t wait for the summer holidays – it will be warm, sunny, relaxed and all that jazz!’ 

  • To march to the beat of your own drumpara describir a alguien que es único y hace las cosas a su manera sin importarle lo que piensen los demás.

‘Sheila is the artist and creative one in the family. We could even say she is slightly eccentric as she marches to the beat of her own drum.’ 

  • To carry a tunepoder cantar una canción o tararear una melodía correctamente.

‘I couldn’t carry a tune even if my life depended on it – I am completely tone deaf.’ 

  • To play it by earafrontar y solucionar cualquier tema cuando pase. No planificar o hacer cosas con normas.

  • With bells oncuando haces algo o vas a algún sitio con alegría y entusiasmo.

‘Olga is such a party animal! She will always come along to a party with bells on even when she is exhausted.’ 

  • Clean as a whistlepara describir algo o a alguien que está muy limpio. Si se refiere a una persona podría también significar que es inocente.

‘The police questioned Sam about the bank robbery but he is as clean as a whistle.’ 

  • To face the musiccuando tienes que aceptar las consecuencias negativas de un hecho o enfrentarte a tu culpabilidad o un problema.

 ‘After several years of cheating his employee, Tony got caught out and had to face the music.’ 

  • Fine tuning / to fine tunemejorar el funcionamiento de algo haciendo pequeños ajustes.

‘Some students like to fine tune their brain by learning some vocabulary every day.’ 

  • To jazz upmejorar algo añadiendo más estilo, color y belleza.
